Archives For December 2017

The 15th of December.

I bloody love Star Wars. Such fun. But it has eaten up my entire afternoon so barely any crochet today!

I got up a bit early to rinse some of the product off my hair, do a blog post and the Cats Protection admin that came from the adoptions before getting on with some crochet pre-film. Somehow it all took longer than I planned, so I’ve done just about a round and a bit of what I am working on. Going to have a busy weekend.

So this afternoon was The Last Jedi. I love Carrie so much. And Po and Rey and Finn and Rose and the porgs. The porgs are my favourite. So cute; I want one. And BB-8! I did not like the evil BB-8, whatever that is called. He can piss off.

Got a sales report this morning and we’ve sold 98 so far. Going to try to push this week because it is anniversary week.

The 16th of December.

Ugh. I woke up at half past five and I am feeling it. Just couldn’t go back to sleep, so shortly after six I decided to watch some tv on my phone until it was warm enough to get up. I started with The Night Of, but it was really slow and dull, so then I watched the first episode of Dark, which I have carried on with all day. It began dubbed, but the mouths not syncing with words was too annoying so I changed the audio to German and put the subtitles on.

After that, I came downstairs and had a rather early breakfast. Made coffee, got on the crochet. That has been my day, watching episodes two to eight of Dark, finishing one Christmas present, and getting a bit more done of another. Nearly finished that one.

I had a delivery this morning of my last present to arrive, and it rattled which was most concerning. I had Mommy film me opening it so if it was broken I had proof it arrived that way, but thankfully it was not smashed. Phew!

The 13th of December.

Not so cold today – my toes are not such blocks of ice. I am very grateful for this, it means that it is warm enough for my lungs to not seize up outside.

I was up early for the chiro at eleven, got a blog post done before we went out, and thankfully the roads and pavement around Holly Cottage were pretty clear.

My neck was really bad, I’m suspecting because of having it bent forward while crocheting, and as I’m not finished, there’s not much I can do about it. I’m getting to the end but not there yet. My back was not so terrible, for once. Grateful for small mercies.

Ann came to pick up Bertie and Molly after lunch, and that was nice and straightforward – didn’t have to chase anyone round the room and not too much mewing.

Well, not while we were still in the room. However, as soon as Biscuit was alone, sad, constant mews erupted from the kitty room, and it was unbearable. I had to go and sit with him, and we watched What Happened to Monday on Netflix. He eventually fell asleep on my lap. Finally he wants to be friends! I managed to sneak way while he slept on the other chair, and it’s still quiet. Phew.

The 14th of December.

All the kittens are gone! Thank god, the sad mews continued this morning. So forlorn, I do hope he makes friends with the dog quickly.

I made my coffee and went to sit with the moany floofer while we watched Riverdale (well, he only watched some of it). Let’s not talk about that “reveal” – what bollocks. I expect proper revelations in the second half of the season next year.

I was able to leave him when Mommy came back from round the corner, and I was going to assemble the thing I’ve been making for Daddy. Except it turned out that one element (which is repeated eight times) was the wrong size, so I had to remake them all.

Tracy came to pick Biscuit up at half twelve, and we got the forms filled in as quickly as possible so she could get him to his new home and he could meet his new friend. I haven’t heard anything, so I’m assuming everything is fine.

I made myself a salted caramel fudge hot chocolate, put Hercules on the tv and got assembling. I finished the front part, turned it over and found that half the remade parts were too small now! Remade them again. Shoot me.

The 11th of December.

My toes are really bloody cold tonight. Normally they’re cold but I can’t tell – now I can feel that they are freezing and it is not fun at all.

This morning I was up a bit earlier than normal, so I got a blog post done and was on the crochet quick sharp. Thankfully my coffee was nice today so I only had to make it once.

My entire day has been crocheting – Daddy’s present today. Couldn’t do anything over the weekend because he was around but I can work on it in the week. It is a frustrating thing – I’ve had to do some bits more than one because the pattern is translated from Dutch and some of it doesn’t make sense. Bah.

I had The Sinner on for the whole afternoon, got two episodes left. No wonder Cora is so fucked up; her childhood/young adulthood is seriously disturbing. So much not okay there.

I got the insurance for the gig sorted out too, and am getting sales reports now. I don’t know if they’ll make me more or less stressed.

The 12th of December.

Still so cold. I have had my knee-high thermal socks on but they have not helped my toes. Never ever warm.

I didn’t get up to take the kittens to the vet as I would have been no help. It took Mommy half an hour to get the car warm enough to drive.

She made the brave decision to take Grandma out for lunch in Sutton, but that was okay because the roads and pavements there were all clear. While she was out, I worked on her crochet, and realised I had to redo the whole previous section because I’d messed up the start of it. Nitwit.

I had an appointment at Black Sheep for re-toning and cut at quarter past two, so she came to pick me up with Grandma still in the car. We parked in the car park round the corner, and she took me to the salon in Grandma’s chair because mine can’t cope with snow. Then it turned out I was early, so I got to hold baby Lulu for half an hour which was great. She’s so squidgy.

We are very ginger for Christmas, I mean really quite orange, and have taken off some of the length and pushed it all forward. While I was toning, I was getting texts because Mommy’s car had got stuck in the snow. The RAC wouldn’t come because she’s not the policy holder which is bollocks, but thankfully there were several good samaritans and helpful physios around.

She escaped, took Grandma home, picked up the kittens and then came back for me, parking on the road. I had to walk to the car so she brought the oxygen, which I needed. I had to rest twice in a 20 metre walk. Fuck my lungs.

The 9th of December.

I have had a most productive day of crochet. Pretty much straight after breakfast, Mommy and Daddy went into town for very targeted shopping (as in, there was a list and they stuck to it). They were out until about half twelve, so I took the opportunity to work on Mommy’s Christmas present. I made some good progress on that, although as it grows, it does seem to go slower. I have to be careful to not lose focus or one wrong stitch can really fuck it up.

I got it put away before they returned, and they had brought me a German market pretzel! Joy. I warmed it up and enjoyed its excessive saltiness, before getting to work on a different crochet present this afternoon. Not such festive viewing today – I started watching The Sinner on Netflix while waiting for Ann and Tom to come and visit the kittens, then I watched the second episode after they left.

I’m doing very well on the afternoon crochet, on my third ball of wool of five, so I should be able to finish it in a day or so, if I do some solid work.

The 10th of December.

Finished! No distractions today – nobody has been anywhere because of the snow. It has barely stopped, although the heaviness of the flurries has been varied.

I didn’t have a great start to the day, because my advent calendar coffee was disgusting. It happened once last year, when the tasting notes were strawberries and cream. Today, it was apricot. I made Mommy taste it and she agreed it was gross, and made me a normal one.

I have spent the day as planned – purely crocheting. I finished what I was working on yesterday after working solidly until about half past three. I’m very pleased with what I’ve done, especially since it required techniques that I’ve not really done before. Well done me. Then I started on another thing, which is a potential present but it depends how it comes out.

I think I have decided upon a wrapping theme, but I’ll need to go shopping to see if it’s available.

The 7th of December.

FINALLY I can announce the secret exciting event I’ve been working on for months: I am hosting a comedy show at Union Chapel on 12th February next year to celebrate being alive ten years after my diagnosis with Nish, Suzi, Josh, Sara and hopefully we can rope in a couple more to round off the bill. It’s called Still Standing and you can get tickets here.

This morning, I got a blog post done, then made a call to Chapel to find out when the tickets would go on sale. I had to pay the deposit first, so I got them to send over the invoice so I could get the thing on sale!

Once I had paid, I had to just sit and wait for the link to appear online, so I did Christmas crochet while periodically checking the Union Chapel website/my email. It appeared about half three, so since then I have been generally all over the social media, promoting the shit out of it. I will continue to do so until I have sold all the tickets, and there are a lot!

I am beyond excited. I just really hope it’s a success!

The 8th of December.

I had forgotten it was supposed to snow, so the white blanket covering my garden this morning was a lovely surprise. I would have liked to have put on my knitted Christmas trousers to keep cosy, but I know the kittens would tear them to shreds and I can’t have that, so it was fleecy velvet leggings instead.

My main objective today has been to finish my Christmas shopping. I had only three more items to get, but it’s taken me all day to decide on them. Admittedly I did stop for lunch and to wash my hair, and that took a while because my lip balm rolled under the bed. I spent a good ten minutes swiping a hanger around to try to retrieve it, but to no avail. It’s a good thing I had three spares in my drawer.

I also took a shopping break to work on Mommy’s present because she and Daddy went to get a Christmas tree and logs for the fire, although she did walk in while I was squirrelling it away. Hopefully she didn’t see what it is.

Now I just have to decide on a wrapping theme!

The 5th of December.

Ugh fuck I am tired and sad and stressed.

First thing I had to do was to out with Mommy to the sorting office to pick up my Christmas shoes, but that was the only good part of the day.

When we got back, I wrote up a blog post, and that took longer than it should have, which was bothersome. Then Rosemary came for lunch, so that was distracting and meant I couldn’t get on with more jobs.

I had some of the soup and cheese scone that Mommy had made, then I got on with my planned work. There are just loads of questions that keep coming up in the organisation of this event – it is a lot more complicated than I had imagined. I sent Daddy an email with some questions which he had additions to, then he got angry with me because he misunderstood my reply. I think we are friends again now though.

After that, I got my crochet out and have essentially completed one present. Two more to go. Then two other things to make. Sigh.

The 6th of December.

Mood greatly improved, despite a dodgy sleep and an early start. I woke up at three, then again at half five, after which I didn’t go back to sleep. Really hoping tonight is better.

I had haematology clinic this morning, where I met a new reg called Dr. Hussain. One of the first things he asked me was if the paper about me had been published yet, to which I didn’t know the answer. Just because I am the subject, it doesn’t mean I am kept in the loop. He didn’t have much to do for me, except my prescription, and took up the majority of my appointment. Then the pharmacists wanted to know about how my eye GvHD was treated, so I did some educating. Always teaching.

Pharmacy were going to take ages to fill my script, so we went into town to pick up two bits from Selfridges – Daddy’s Secret Santa for work and Jonathan’s birthday present. Back to the QE, picked up my drugs, home.

This afternoon, I did some crochet, and had a conversation with a chap from the venue of the event I’m organising so I could ask him the questions I’d talked to Daddy about. Once I was satisfied, I got the booking form back to him, so I should be able to announce it tomorrow!

The 3rd of December.

I have had many jobs to do today, and have completed most of them. The important ones, anyway.

Once dressed and full of festive coffee, I got two blog posts done (the one I typed yesterday didn’t work), then set about writing some promotional blurb for this event I am planning (I promise details next week) and it is harder than you might think! It took me the whole of the rest of the morning. It needed to be under 200 words and I am very bad at being concise.

After lunch, I did some more of my crochet gifts while we skipped through the X Factor final (let’s not talk about it), then I painted my nails while we caught up with last week’s Howard’s End. Wrote some more emails, and now I am about to plan where Mommy and I go tomorrow in London and in what order. Christmas shopping trip!

The 4th of December .

I am on a train and my back hurts. It has been a long day and my left eye has been excruciating for most of it. I have positively flooded it with drops to try to alleviate some of the pain. Occasionally it hurts less and I am taking the opportunities as they come.

I woke up at twenty past five for no good reason and couldn’t get back to sleep, so I tossed and turned as I listened to podcasts to kill the time.

Coffee, toast, advent calendar biscuit (I decided I probably wouldn’t want to eat it by the time I got back this evening). At New Street for ten o’clock, where I discovered Nationwide were having issues so I couldn’t withdraw any money or use my debit card. Not ideal for a day of Christmas shopping. Still, it got resolved while we were on the train, so I got some cash at Euston and breathed a sigh of relief.

Started at Harrods where we spent half an hour getting lost trying to find the café, having to traverse the hell that is the Toy Kingdom before finally finding the place to sit and drink coffee and eat lunch. I had a braffle, which is a brioche-waffle hybrid filled with Welsh rarebit and it was delicious. We were entertained by the very stressed manager telling all the staff that it was imperative that they smile, and when he got angry he started speaking Italian so we couldn’t understand. The one thing I hate about Harrods is that no matter when you go, it always seems to be full of children. Why are they not at school? I am very much of the Victorian position that children should be seen and not heard except I don’t want to see them either unless I have chosen to spend time with them. All I purchased was a salted caramel brownie. Disappointing this year!

Next stop Fortnum & Mason which was much better. I only bought my festive Buck’s Fizz marmalade but Mommy got several things so it was worth it. We only go to the food floor in there because the lifts are ghastly and I cannot be arsed. So then we went to Liberty via Cinnabon (I cannot pass it without buying one, it would be a disservice to Dean) and there I found joy in a felt sausage dog tree ornament and the haberdashery. The wall of wool is my happy place. However, I discovered the one in John Lewis is even better. I know I should have known this, but we hadn’t been before so didn’t know its true beauty. So much wool. I bought some that I would never normally have purchased but my eye really hurt and I was sad so I made a decision of self-pity.

Last stop Selfridges. I bought an elf gingerbread man. But he was all. I saw some fun wrapping paper but it would be ridiculous to buy that in London and besides, I have not decided on a theme yet and I can’t do that until I have got all my gifts. I have bought one present today, only a couple left to go. I am so uninspired this year.

Now on our way home. I am so looking forward to a comfortable chair and taking off my eye make up.
