The 11th & 12th; Embrace the spirit.
The 11th of November.
I have started Christmas shopping! I am wearing my favourite Christmas jumper. The festive period has truly begun. I do, however, feel like I will do most of my shopping in actual shops, because right now the internet is giving me nothing in terms of inspiration. My other option is to see things in real life, then go home and order them, as I am not good at carrying a lot of goods, unless they're small.
My first thought when I woke up today was "Oh, fuck, I have to go to the hygienist this morning". Then I checked my diary and the appointment wasn't until ten to twelve, so there was no need to rush. Phew. I got my blog post done, drank my coffee, chewed some gum, then we went round the corner to the dentist. Had to explain why my eye is taped shut, then Sandra and I got on to our traditional Christmas chat. This year they are having a day in which all the staff have to dress up like elves to raise money for Alzheimer's, and Claire (the nurse) has bought herself a full elf costume from Amazon. Embrace the spirit.
Home, lunch, Dark Time. Rest of my afternoon was television with the kittens. They didn't really want to sit on me, just run around, then Blanche came to my lap but decided to lick herself very loudly and it was incredibly distracting. Plus, if she turned over, my leg got all damp. Bleah.
I had two episodes of American Horror Story on the TiVo box, but I could also watch them on NowTV, and this week is the season finale so I thought I'd better catch up. The second programme was weirdly short, so I then ended up watching the first episode of The Fall as well. I never saw it when it was on, despite the premise being good (I think I just couldn't be arsed at the time), so I thought I'd give it a go. It is decent so far, although obviously it does need to get going. God I love Gillian Anderson.
The 12th of November.
I want to go to bed. I didn't even have a particularly bad night, but I really have no interest in staying awake until ten.
This morning, I finally finished off the scarf I have been making! I tried to knit it to the point where I could cast off just before finishing the ball of wool, but I went one row too many, so I had to tie in a tiny bit more! Oh, it was very annoying. Still, it is just the right dimensions because it's long enough to go around my neck once and wide enough to not leave any of it exposed. Does that make sense? Basically, it's nice and snuggly but not so much that it will be cumbersome.
After lunch, I had some Dark Time and listened to a bit of The Riverdale Register, covering the two most boring plots of last week's episode: the legal bullshit, and Archie's community centre/boxing gym. I just about managed to not fall asleep.
Back downstairs, I spent the rest of my afternoon with the kittens. I had Blanche on my lap for almost all of the time, occasionally licking herself but generally being good. I watched the next two Watchmen, which I'm just kind of gently going along with. I like it, but I'm still not entirely sure what is happening. Why is Laurie phoning Mars to tell jokes that don't make sense? Does Angela's grandpa have superpowers? Why did Ozymandias kill all of the clones? How is he growing them in the lake? So many questions.
After the second episode, I wasn't in the mood for The Fall, so instead I listened to the download of Jonny and Paddy's new album (Love You and Hate Bastards) which made me laugh and even do a surprise cry! I was not prepared for that. But do not let that stop you from getting yourself a copy. They are wonderful.
