The 16th & 17th; Being sassy is very stressful.
The 16th of October.
Argh, my left eye has been a nightmare all day because I poked it with a tissue this morning. No matter how many drops I put in, it will not settle. I just need to go to bed, put the ointment in, and hopefully in the morning it will feel better.
I've spent most of the day not really being able to pay attention to much because I've been so distracted by my eye. All I want is for them to behave again. It's really difficult to live your life when the things you use so much are hurting. I genuinely can't remember much of anything that I did this morning, apart from injure myself and get a blog post done. Daddy went to visit Taid, so he actually went out before I came downstairs. Mommy went to Grandma's so she could be there when the doctor came, so I have been mainly on my own, if you don't count the kittens.
My afternoon was spent with them. I watched one pretty terrible film, and one that I very much enjoyed. The first one was Down A Dark Hall, which is somehow an 18 despite not really being very scary or gory or anything? Uma Thurman plays a woman who runs a "school" where she uses five delinquent girls to become vessels for the spirits of creative geniuses who died young so they can finish their work. Obviously one of the girls works it out with the help of another, who is locked in a cupboard by Rebecca Front. They both escape, find the other girls have either killed themselves or gone mad, and they burn the place down, getting out with the aid of Uma Thurman's hot son and the ghost of the protagonist's dead father. Somehow 911 has been called, and the two girls are saved while everyone else burns to death. Do not recommend.
After this, I decided some Dark Time was required, so I just had half an hour, listening to the end of Ed and Matthew's podcast, while the kittens rampaged around me. That helped a little bit, but still a lot of soreness. I don't think longer would have made it better though. Not while it's still light.
The second film, which was great, was called Little Evil. Adam Scott plays a guy who discovers that his new stepson is actually the Antichrist. He has a band of fellow stepdads to help him figure out what to do, and they are huge fun. I don't want to spoil it for you because this one is actually worth watching, so that's all I'll say. And during that, the kittens finally calmed down enough for me to be able to have some pets. However, Blanche was so relaxed by the end, I had to slide her off because I really had to pee. We have decided that we're going to let them out properly tomorrow, because we've had no accidents, and they can be trusted. Just get them to gain some weight, then we can get them on the website and adopted!
The 17th of October.
So much better today. I have not spent the whole time pouring drops into my eye or squinting at things, wishing it was bedtime.
I am going to have to just make peace with the fact that my mornings don't exist. I get nothing of importance done, yet somehow they disappear. I started another kitten blanket and got about halfway through? That'll do.
After lunch, I watched the final episode of The Hot Zone, and although I'm glad it all got resolved (sort of), it is all wrapped up a bit quickly in the show - Carter and Rhodes go off in search of these other monkeys, then that's all easily sorted out and they bury the hatchet, Jaax's husband recovers, and their questioning ends without any action taken. Ta da! While I watched that, I finished the blanket, and we waited for Mick to come so Mommy could give him the key to Alison's, then they could pick up Daddy's car from being serviced, and she could go and visit Grandma. He was supposed to be here at half past one, but by quarter past two, he hadn't arrived, so I was entrusted with the task and they left. I made myself a coffee, and halfway through that, he arrived, nearly an hour late. I answered the door with "This is an interesting version of half past one" and his excuse was a gas leak that he couldn't avoid. I said that as may be, but it would have been polite to let Alison know so she could have passed that on to us, as we do have other things to do apart from wait around for him all day. I didn't throw in the unwell Grandma, so he was lucky. He apologised, I gave him the key, and shut the door, my heart racing. Being sassy is very stressful! Anyway, I finished my coffee and went to sit with the kittens.
Today I ended up watching The Silence of the Lambs. Another classic to add to my list. I hadn't realised it is as old as me! I think because I remember Hannibal coming out when I was in primary school, I assumed it was a year or two before that, but it was actually ten years! Anywho, I don't know if it's because it's older, or because I have watched Hannibal (the TV show) which is a lot more gory, but I just did not find it that scary. Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster are obviously incredible in their roles, but I think what I found really unnerving was the way Jodie was constantly surrounded by men, all staring at her. That, I found creepy as fuck.
In the middle of it, I managed to cut my finger on the blade of my pill splitter, which was quite deep. I had to hot foot it to the kitchen where I got Daddy to help me with the Savlon and plaster, but I wasn't sure if it was tight enough so I put another one over the top. When I got back into the kitty room, I could feel the tip of my finger throbbing away, but no blood escaped so it was tight enough. Finished the film, and had a happy Blanche asleep on my lap. Bramble likes it on the green chair, Beatrice likes to be in the box by the bathroom door, and Blanche likes to be with me. She's my favourite.
